Happy Mother’s Day

Noah came home from school today cradling a decorated paper bag and pretty much bursting with excitement. He hinted that the object in the bag was “sort of alive but not a furry pet” and said it would “need water on Sunday morning.” His smile, the fact that he literally could not wait until Sunday for me to open it, how he insisted I peek right away and rocked side-to-side beaming as I exclaimed over my new flower, the way he proudly carried that pot into the kitchen, pulled out a chair and placed it up on the window sill – this is why I love Mother’s Day, whatever day it happens to fall on.

For all the mamas, I hope your day is as sweet as a leftover foil-wrapped Easter egg gifted in the palm of an outstretched hand, a plate of chocolate chip cookies as breakfast in bed, a peanut-buttery kiss on the cheek. I wish you the best kind of gifts on the planet: a crayoned picture of stick figures with their mouths attached to their eyes, a hug, a handful of dandelions, a carefully scripted acrostic poem…or perhaps, a petunia in an “I love you” pot that will tug on your heartstrings forever.

One Year Cake Smash | Barrie Baby Photographer

“How time flies.”

“They grow so fast.”

“It seems like yesterday…”

The thing is, as parents, we can’t get away from constantly being reminded of how short a day is, how fast a few weeks slip by. Our little ones are rulers when it comes to measuring the passage of time, from their first haircut, first taste of sweet potato, first “bye-bye,” first car (think plastic wheels and smaller than a grocery cart…for now), first steps, first day of school…and countless more. Baby’s 1st birthday rolls around in a blink after a year of whirlwind firsts; it’s a great time to capture his/her growing personality. These images are from last year of Miss Lauryn very daintily digging into her cake. It wasn’t her style to smash it to bits and that was just fine, just as memorable, and so very Lauryn. She recently became a proud big sister (images to come!) and will soon turn 2. Time flies. I can’t help saying so!

If you’d like to book custom portraits of your little one’s 1st, contact laura@laurareivephotography.com ~ I’d love to hear from you.

Cameron | Barrie Baby Photographer

Cameron came to see me when she was almost 7 months old and beginning to get the hang of sitting up. She has the cutest cheeks ever, the most suiting heart-shaped birthmark and such a gentle, inquisitive personality. Cameron was definitely a serious little one but gave me plenty of cheeky grins too. Sheila and Brandon, it was such a pleasure to reconnect and spend the morning with you and your beautiful baby girl.

Carmen | Collingwood Newborn Photographer

“Wonder of wonders: so soft, sweet, and small.” ~Helen Steiner Rice

Beautiful Carmen Hope was 8 days old at her session. She was pure sugar.
